A Single Thread In A Tapestry

There's a song that was written for the cartoon "Prince Of Egypt" that I've been singing bits and pieces of all month because I've been working on a cross-stitch for a friend:

A single thread in a tapestry
Through its color brightly shine
Can never see its purpose
In the pattern of the grand design

And the stone that sits on the very top
Of the mountain's mighty face
Does it think it's more important
Than the stones that form the base?

So how can you see what your life is worth
Or where your value lies?
You can never see through the eyes of man
You must look at your life
Look at your life through heaven's eyes.

So often we look at our lives and see only the little bits that we've been a part of, and fail to see God's grand pattern. Sometimes I wonder about my purpose, or if I could actually possibly be where I'm supposed to be. When I'm working on a cross stitch it doesn't make since to take one stitch in green when everything around it is brown, but it's what is on the pattern, so it's what I do. So often we can feel like there must be something different that we're supposed to be doing, but each moment of each day the Lord is using us to create a picture that we won't see until we reach Heaven. Until we get "heaven's eyes" and can look at the whole thing, instead of just the places where we are putting our bit of our own particular color in.

So let the Lord work the pattern and be content to rest in what He's given you. Don't try to be the bits of red if He's made you the blue, and don't worry if you seem to be entirely out of place, because He knows exactly what He's doing. Trust in the Lord and let Him lead your life. He created you for a purpose, and He will not rest until the masterpiece is perfectly completed.

Thank you to whoever wrote this... I love it when people take simple, everyday sort of activities and draw profound spiritual truths from them!☺ I hope the recipient of your embroidery work appreciates it as much as I appreciate you writing!
