Our Perfect GPS

My dad wrote this little "note" for our church bulletin two weeks ago, and I realllllly liked it. Thought I would share it with others...

Nowadays, whenever we travel anywhere we are not completely familiar, many use a GPS (Global Positioning System) device to guide us from leaving our driveways right to the door of our destination. We have mileage and drive time displayed, and in some cases traffic updates and local attractions. Our entire path is planned and guesswork removed.

We often want our lives to be the same way. We want all our steps, relationships, decisions, and outcomes clearly plotted for us so we can live lives stress-free, in comfort, ease, and certainty. But living this way lacks one key element. Faith. Where is there room for the Lord to direct us if our paths are completely mapped and planned? While establishing a direction or goal in whatever endeavor we pursue is not necessarily a bad thing, leaving no room for God to adjust our plans, or not seeking Him out in the Word at all for answers sets us up for potential disappointment.

Ultimately, God will have His way; however, things work so much better if we allow Him to direct us one step at a time. That’s faith. Our “roadmap” to life is the Word of God. Let us use God’s Protection System (GPS) to the fullest to get to the destinations He has for us. The ride will be much more rewarding!

Psalm 119:105-106

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid,
And think Ive lost my way.
Still, you're there right beside me.
Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near;
Please be near me to the end.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

I will not forget
Your love for me and yet,
My heart forever is wandering.
Jesus by my guide,
And hold me to your side,
And I will love you to the end.

Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near;
Please be near me to the end.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
And a light unto my path.
You're the light unto my path.

On the famous site of "Face Book" I enjoy collecting 'flair'... and one piece that I've collected says "JESUS is my GPS"- I just couldn't help but think of it while I read this post.☺ Isn't it so wonderful to know that our lives are directed by the Almighty God rather than our own pitiful little selves (at least it is when we remain surrendered to Him ☺)?! Thank you for sharing. May we ever continue to heavenward to our great guide!
