Chains Shall He Break

Every year one of the first songs to be played at Christmas time is Josh Groban's rendition of the hymn "O Holy Night." I love that he sings the last verse...it doesn't seem to be in many other recordings, but I dearly love the words.

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!
Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!

It's said that the hymn was written by a french man who left the church not ten years later, and that the music was written by a Jew who didn't even celebrate Christmas, and yet, somehow, God has used this song to share the story of His sinless birth millions of times.
