Proverbs 10:19
"When words are many, sin is not absent; but he who hold his tongue is wise."
Words...whether spoken, written, or typed...when used too freely and frequently, provide a greater opportunity for causing harm to those who are the subject of the discussion, writing, or typing. WIth many of our schedules so pakced with activities nowadays, the danger from speaking too many words still exists, but that same danger has been tranferred to typing too many words. Easy access to email, instant messaging, and social networking websites has made the spreading of sometimes hurtful information available 24/7.
An acronym called THINK applies to this danger. It is something we should strive for and commit to in order to keep us on the appropriate path the Lord wants us to be on. So, it would be wise to say and pursue the following:
I shall THINK before I speak by asking the following questions......
is it True?
is it Helpful?
is it Inspiring?
is it Needed?
is it Kind?
If our spoken, written, or typed dialog fails at any of these questions, we should seriously evaluate what we are about to "say" and then ask the Lord for wisdom, and in some cases forgiveness for our heart's condition. When we tear someone or something down, we are often wanting to build ourselves up. Search the scriptures closely. You will not find any reference to where Jesus, during his entire three year ministry on this earth, tore anyone down for the purpose of building himself up. Remember, He did the Father's will at all times. This gives us a picture of God and His character. We should continue to strive for the same. So be a part of the building crew, not the demolition team.
