A Little Yeast.

Galatians 5:9

“A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.”

I read this recently at 45 minutes past midnight in my bed. It really got my mind thinking…which is hard to do that late at night. ‘A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.’ Yes, we all know that yeast makes bread rise…makes it light and fluffy…makes it bigger. Without yeast, bread would be completely flat. The smallest bit of yeast can make that big of a difference in bread. Amazing, huh?

I tried applying this concept to life in different ways.

You know when someone pays you a compliment about your outfit…or says how grateful they are for your friendship…or gives you a scripture that you really needed at the time? It really brightens your day, doesn’t it? It does mine. Just the smallest encouragement—whether it be from someone we care about or from someone we don’t even know—can make the biggest difference in our day…or week…or lives. I think of those “little things” as the “yeast.” A little encouragement works through our lives and brightens our days.” While I enjoy receiving this “yeast,” I also need to give it as well. Is there someone that needs your encouragement? God can use you in miraculous ways to be the yeast in someone’s life.

On the other hand, the wrong type of yeast can have detrimental consequences. Just a little bit of discouragement, disobedience, or deception can cause someone to crumble. Sin can beautifully embellish itself, but just a *little* ounce of tolerance for it can ruin a life…and more in the process. Don’t be overcome by this type of yeast. And don’t feed it to someone else. A little discouragement, disobedience, and deception (among many other things) works through lives and tears them to ruins.

Which kind of yeast do you give to others? Which kind do you receive? You may not be able to control what kind of yeast someone gives you, but you must be able to distinguish between the good and the bad yeast and, in turn, be able to address and rid your life of the bad yeast.

“A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.”
