Reading in the first portion of Psalm 37 awhile back, I came across four delightful commands:
1. "Trust in the LORD" (vs. 3)
2. Delight thyself also in the LORD (vs. 4)
3. Commit thy way unto the LORD (vs. 5)
4. Rest in the LORD (vs. 7)
So, first of all, how do we know that we can trust God? Well, Isaiah 25:9 says, "Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."
Secondly, how can we know that there is anything delightful found in Christ? Psalm 16:11 tells us: "in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." Also, in Song of Solomon, the Bride said of her Bridegroom, "I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste." (2:3) I have found that this can be said of my Heavenly Bridegroom, Christ, as well.
How can we know that we can commit our way unto the Lord? Timothy said in II Tim. 1:12 "for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day."
Lastly, how can we know that we will find rest in Christ? He Himself said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28
And so, sisters, may you find great joy in trusting and delighting in Christ. Then, commit your way to Him. You will most certainly find rest!
